Transparent window: shaped after theatre masks; contains the embossed denomination and a golden overprinted ribbon.

The watermark features the portrait of the historical figure depicted on the banknote, as well as the NBR logo; both items are located on the left side of the obverse. The watermark becomes visible only when the banknote is held against the light.

The magnetic security thread becomes visible only when the banknote is held against the light.


See-through register: a stylised Violet flower.

All Romanian banknotes in circulation contain different, but similarly designed features that are printed in the same place on both sides of the banknote and overlap perfectly to assemble an image. The banknote must be held against the light in order to see the register.


Iridescent stripe: vertical gold-translucent stripe which has the denomination printed seven times.


Microlettering: areas printed with small characters, of under 1 mm in height, that can only be seen with a magnifying glass. Content: "BNR".

UV fluorescence: the special ink on the reverse becomes visible only in UV light.

The denomination and serial number (unique; consists of 3 digits, 1 letter and a 7-digit number) are printed with special ink. In UV light, the black vertical serial number shines green, while the red horizontal serial number shines orange.


Golden overprint: a ribbon in the transparent window.


Intaglio (raised printing): the main features of the banknote are raised printed on both sides.


The latent image consists of the "BNR" letters. The banknote must be tilted to one side in order to see the latent image (located on the reverse, on the building doors).


Micro-perforations: overlapping the floral feature on the observe, the denomination become visible only when the banknote is held against the light.


Optically variable ink: some element shift their colour from gold to green when the banknote is viewed at an angle.
