Numismatic issue - a silver coin dedicated to the 10 year anniversary of the introduction of the euro banknotes and coins

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 – The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 30 January 2012, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin dedicated to the 10‑year anniversary of the introduction of the euro banknotes and coins.

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: lei 10
  • Metal: silver
  • Fineness: 999‰
  • Shape: round
  • Diameter: 37 mm
  • Weight: 31.103 g
  • Quality: proof
  • Edge: milled.

Obverse: several landmark monuments in Romania in an arc and the outline of Romania’s map overlapping them; in the middle, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value – “10 LEI”, the year of issue “2012” and the inscription “ROMANIA”.

Reverse: a composition suggesting the single European currency and its importance to the business community, households, trade, research and industry, and the years “2002”, “2012”; on the outside, the circular inscription “10 ANI DE LA INTRODUCEREA BANCNOTELOR SI MONEDELOR EURO”.

The silver coin, housed in a transparent plastic case, will be accompanied by a leaflet featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.

The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 500 coins.

The selling price of the silver coin, the leaflet included, is lei 365.00, excluding VAT.

The silver coins in the numismatic issue “The 10‑year Anniversary of the Introduction of the Euro Banknotes and Coins” are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj‑Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
